The Valley‘s Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright‘s divorce is becoming more complex by the minute. The topic of discussion is regarding the custody agreement for their three year-old son Cruz. Jax just made a decision in terms of custody that just changed everything. Read on to find out happened.
Jax Taylor Hires A Famous Lawyer
It was recently revealed that Jax has now hired celebrity attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan, to help him during his divorce proceeding with Brittany.
Kaplan has been a high-profile lawyer for years, famously known for representing Kevin Federline during his dramatic split from Britney Spears.
Not only did Federline receive over 1 Million dollars in the divorce settlement, but Spears has been paying him $40,000 a month in child support for taking care of their two sons.
With the guidance of his lawyer, Jax is now seeking joint physical and legal custody of Cruz. The reality star is also requesting that he have sole rights to the property that he obtained before and after their separation.
He opened his bar Jax’s Studio City right before their separation, so it’s clear that he’s hoping to gain full rights to the business.
Their Interesting Custody Battle
When Brittany first filed for divorce, she requested that she receive full legal and physical custody of Cruz. Cartwright did mention that she would be willing to give Jax visiting rights to see their son.
In what is now an infamous paperwork error, Jax accidentally agreed to her custody terms when filing out some court documents. Now, he’s backtracking and asking for their custody terms to be split down the middle.
The factor in their divorce that they are on the same page with is spousal support. In Brittany’s filing and in Jax’s new documents with his lawyer, they’ve both agreed that neither one of them should receive spousal support in their settlement.
That does still mean that child support is still on the table, depending on how their custody gets arranged.
Some People Aren’t Buying It
Mistakenly agreeing to give up the custody to your only child raised some serious eyebrows. To some people it might have just been a harmless mistake that Jax made, but others are thinking differently.
In a Reddit thread, fans are sharing their theory that Jax consciously made the decision to concede to Brittany’s custody idea.
People are convinced that it’s only because his paperwork made headlines that he’s lawyering up and fighting for custody. Here are a few of the comments:
- “He knows he didn’t want custody-now he’s just trying to look better.”
- “It’s bc he’s getting heat for doing it! Now it’s a “mistake.”
- “He is the dumbest man alive. And he absolutely gave her full custody on purpose.”
