Celebrity Jeopardy! made its debut last night with Mayim Bialik as the host. While the episode went off without a hitch, many viewers are less than impressed with Mayim’s hosting abilities. Keep reading to see why.
Who Is On Celebrity Jeopardy! This Season?
The first episode of Celebrity Jeopardy! featured three competitors. Many people were excited about the return of Andy Richter to the game show. Simi Liu, who is known as Marvel’s Shang-Chi, was also featured in the inaugural episode along with SNL‘s Ego Nwodim.

Celebrity Jeopardy! works as a regular game would. Each person buzzes in to provide the answer to the clue that is given. The entire episode went well, with Andy Richter still holding out as a fan favorite.
Despite the episode going well, viewers had plenty of feedback regarding the celebrities presented and the host herself.
Fans Find Mayim Bialik Cringey, At Best
After the episode aired, many fans took to social media to discuss the game show. A few people mentioned that it seems like Celebrity Jeopardy! is “scraping the bottom of the barrel” when it comes to finding people to be on the program. Episode one didn’t feature any huge stars and it doesn’t have viewers optimistic about future episodes.
One person said, “I’m really enjoying Celebrity Jeopardy and no disrespect to the great Andy Richter but he shouldn’t ever be the biggest celebrity.” They concluded that the lineup for the first episode was rather sad.
Viewers’ disappointment didn’t end there though. Many people felt like Mayim Bialik was cringey throughout the episode. On Twitter, one person wrote, “Looking forward to Celebrity Jeopardy getting less cringe when the next round comes.” Another person said that Mayim’s jokes sounded like the Jeopardy! question writers wrote them.

A few people took the chance to compare Bialik to fellow Jeopardy! host, Ken Jennings. The two were named permanent replacements for the late Alex Trebek. When it came to Celebrity Jeopardy! many people felt Jennings would have been the better person to host. “Ken [Jennings] is so comfortable when he hosts that he is able to make witty comments on the fly. The contrast is palpable,” one person tweeted.
Mayim is running Celebrity Jeopardy! while she awaits her turn to host regular Jeopardy! in January. It was announced that Ken would host until then. With how fans have reacted to her thus far, it will be interesting to see how Mayim is received in the new year.
