Jessica Tarlov is known to many for expressing her views on Fox News’ The Five. Many know her for offering a different perspective than her co-hosts. However, Tarlov recently found herself defending the show in a recent conversation. In fact, she also shared a few choice words for certain independent journalists.
Jessica Tarlov Has Been Part Of A Few Fox News Programs, Including The Five And Fox & Friends
Tarlov is a political strategist for the Democratic Party. She became known to many as a co-host on Fox News’ The Five.
Thanks to her work on the show, Tarlov has become known for offering a leftist perspective on the program. Officially becoming a contributor to the network in 2017, she has appeared on programs like Hannity, Outnumbered, and Fox & Friends.
Recently, Tarlov made an appearance on the Mixed Signals podcast. At the time, she found herself defending The Five and her position on the show.
As co-host Ben Smith asked Tarlov during the discussion, “Aren’t you just sort of basically putting on an entertaining show at the expense of the country?” To this, Tarlov expressed, “You said that in such a nice tone, and then at the end there got real serious and negative!” She then explained that she’s more than aware of selling a “product” of sorts on the show.
Tarlov Highlighted The Need For Reporters To Be Upfront About Their Positions
Tarlov then noted, “I don’t necessarily think that putting on an entertaining show, which is how you get so many butts in seats, then, plus, the social media proliferation that comes from the show is obviously part of programming. And we can’t all be PBS, right?”
However, Tarlov felt that there was one aspect of The Five that deserved respect. As she explained, “One thing that The Five does, and a lot of Fox programming, is, they’re not hiding partisanship or agenda in some way.”
Tarlov continued, “And we have seen an enormous amount of pushback against people who folks thought were reporters or independent journalists or non-partisans, where it’s like, actually, you had an agenda the entire time! And a lot of that was being anti-Trump, frankly.”
As The Five alum noted, there was a dissonance between journalists seen on television and those who made a career using social media. She expressed, “You see where — and I don’t begrudge anyone a career evolution, if you decide that you want to leave cable news and you want to go independent and be on Substack, or you want to go to MeidasTouch, or do whatever it is that makes sense for you and your family — you see a lot of people’s true colors. And that has been really jarring to folks who’ve watched these people for a long time.”
