As she’s read through the book, she’s found interesting details to share with Duggar fans and critics. In one part of Becoming Free Indeed, Jinger talks about being afraid that she might not say what she was expected to. Katie Joy describes these as “scripts” and says that Jinger had to be “robotic.”
Jinger admits that she didn’t want to embarrass her family by saying or doing the wrong thing. She also wasn’t supposed to show her true emotions.
In her book, Jinger is speaking out against her family’s religion, the Institute of Basic Life Principles (IBLP). She specifically calls out Bill Gothard, the founder of the IBLP who has since stepped down. But readers feel that Jinger is also exposing her parents, who raised her in the religion. And because Jim Bob Duggar is the head of the household, fans believe he’s responsible for Jinger having to mask like this.
