Joanna and Chip Gaines took a break from their busy schedules to enjoy some quality time with their family.
The HGTV and Magnolia Network stars share five children: Drake, Ella, Duke, Emmie, and Crew. Though the couple primarily keeps their kids off of their social media feeds, Joanna shared a rare glimpse into their private life by posting photos and videos from their recent summer family trip.
“A few days in the mountains with the whole fam, makes this mama’s heart so happy,” Joanna captioned the Sunday, August 2, Instagram upload. “Fishing, chopping down dead trees, making forts for the [squirrels], crunchy french toast, rodeo, bikes, and family hikes.”
The post featured clips of the Gaines family spending time at their Colorado vacation home, the renovation of which was featured on Fixer Upper: Colorado Mountain House last year. Joanna, Chip, and their kids enjoyed the summer weather by taking a dip in the local river and taking a picturesque outdoor hike, and cooled off inside their cozy mountain home. The clip also featured footage of Crew showing off his construction skills by using tree branches to build a fort.
Fans gushed over Joanna’s sweet family photos and videos in the post’s comments. “So wonderful! Take as many of those times as you can get. Kids grow & change so darn fast. That is one top notch fort the kids built! Way to go!” one user wrote. Another added, “Beautiful! What a dreamy life you two created for yourselves!”

The family’s mountain house getaway comes shortly before the Gaines’ kids will get ready to go back to school. Last year, Joanna got sentimental via Instagram while preparing for Drake and Ella’s third and first years in college.
“To all the parents packing up and moving kids to new places, and to all those with years still to spare: hold them close, hold them well, and let’s all lean on each other when the time comes to hold it together,” she captioned an August 2025 post featuring a pic of her kids’ moving boxes.
Though Joanna doesn’t feature her kids’ faces in social media posts, she recently posted a rare video of Crew while gushing over the farm stand he assembled at Magnolia’s headquarters in Waco, Texas.
“Busy morning at the office for Crew—His farm stand sold out in the first hour! Proud little boy,” she captioned the July 16 Instagram clip. “Proud mama (to the @magnolia and @magnoliarealty team, thanks for supporting him!).”
