What To Know

  • LL Cool J reprises his role as Sam Hanna in the new spinoff NCIS: New York, premiering October 6 on CBS.
  • Sam joins the New York field office team led by Robyn Wells (Jennifer Beals) and partners with Nick Schaeffer (Scott Caan) in the new trailer.

Welcome home, Sam Hanna. LL Cool J‘s NCIS: Los Angeles character comes home to the Big Apple in the newest spinoff in the hit franchise. And as the just-released NCIS: New York trailer details, he’s used to “special assignments, covert ops. Man writes his own ticket. He likes being out in the wild.” So, how will he do with this new team?

The new series premieres on Tuesday, October 6. Sam’s joining the team out of the NCIS field office in New York City, led by Assistant Special Agent in Charge Robyn Wells (Jennifer Beals), and partnering with the roguish Nick Schaeffer (Scott Caan). Also on the team are Addy Ross (Jacqueline Byers), Wyatt Hills (Shane Harper), and tech specialist Sean Sullivan (Devin Druid).

In the trailer, which you can watch above, Sam and Nick meet in Robyn’s office. “Good to meet you. I heard good things,” Nick says. “It’s good you heard good things,” Sam replies, shaking his hand.

When Nick then shows Sam around the office, we get a taste of their good-natured ribbing. “Try not to break anything due to your size,” Nick teases, and Sam gives it right back: “Try not to fall into one of these cracks due to your size.”

Sam says he appreciates the team letting him run with them, and the trailer offers a look at the full team in action. “I want to work with the best,” Nick says. “If not, why do the job?” The video ends with Nick celebrating “Big Sammy’s coming home.”

LL Cool J played Sam across all 14 seasons of NCIS: LA, then one season of Hawai’i, and guest spots on the mothership before leading this new spinoff. Caan is also technically part of the NCIS universe, thanks to a crossover with Hawai’i Five-0 in 2012, but he’ll be playing a different character.

NCIS: New York is produced by CBS Studios. R. Scott Gemmill, Byron Balasco, Adam Davidson, Kyle Harimoto, Joe Wilson, LL Cool J, and Jason Barrett serve as executive producers. Balasco is the showrunner.
