Lone Star’s Owen to ‘Nashville’ (Exclusive)

Back when 9-1-1: Lone Star ended in February 2025, Rob Lowe was open to returning as Owen Strand, last seen working in New York as chief, in the franchise. And so when TV Insider caught up with him recently about his ongoing Fox game show, The Floor, we had to find out if that’s still the case.

“I mean, I never say never. I never say never. And I would be open to anything as long as it is not trying to be a cheaper, low-budget knockoff of what we worked so hard to establish. I think we leave a legacy, not to put too fine a point on it, on storytelling, big spectacle, big cast, great actors, stars, and if there’s an appetite for that that still exists, I’m down,” he told us when the series finale aired.

Now, with 9-1-1 going into its 10th season and the new spinoff, 9-1-1: Nashville, entering its second, he’s not only still up for stepping into Owen Strand’s shoes again, but he also knows exactly how he wants it to play out (specific enough that the matter of story credit even comes up).

“OK, so here’s how it goes down. I’ve been thinking about this. They would have to woo me, but I’m easily wooed. Chad Lowe [his brother, who also played his half-brother on Lone Star], who is directing most of them now, needs to direct it, and they need to shoot it at an amazing golf course because Chris O’Donnell [Captain Don Hart on Nashville] and I are huge golf fans, so it has to be around golf, and of course, maybe there’s a flash flood on the golf course. Or maybe there’s a lightning strike that lights the locker room on fire.”

Of course, Owen’s not the only Strand who could show up on Nashville. Showrunner Rashad Raisani, who also headed Lone Star, told us that he’d love to bring Owen’s son T.K. (Ronen Rubinstein) and his husband Carlos (Rafael Silva) over.

“There’s huge appetite from me personally [in] maybe starting to bring some of the Tarlos or Lone Star people or some of those, I think, beloved characters, that they can visit, too, and we can just see how they’re doing,” he said in May.

Should he bring any characters back, “ideally” they’d be part of both calls and personal storylines. “The easiest one at the moment is, and I mean, this is just [me thinking], Carlos coming in as a Texas Ranger and TK with him just visiting town because Carlos is consulting on a case,” Raisani shared. “It’s probably the easiest way for us to have it be organic. But I would love [if] we could maybe have the rest of the crew come and work a fire together or something like that. If it feels organic, then we will find a way to make it organic. So I’m open to all possibilities, put it that way.”
