One of the biggest culture shocks of visiting America is the food portions in restaurants. Popular fast food chain McDonald’s was the subject of the Super Size Me documentary focusing on the unhealthy food it serves. However, Adam Richman’s Man v. Food show didn’t expose restaurants but rather, entertained viewers as he tried to eat massive amounts of food or overly spicy foods. Keep reading to find out how he dropped 60 pounds after eating so much food.
Man V. Food Star Adam Richman Reveals 60-Pound Weight Loss
Man v. Food premiered on the Travel Channel in 2008. It was an immediate hit as viewers watched Alan Richman take on eating challenges at restaurants across the country. The Brooklyn native ate until he couldn’t eat anymore for four seasons. Then he took a step back from competitive eating.

However, he still hosted the show, rebranded as Man v. Food Nation. But instead of consuming the food himself, he coached others through the eating challenges. The show ended in 2012. Once the show was over, Adam Richman began to lose weight.
He told PEOPLE magazine in 2013 that he had lost 60 pounds and dropped three pant sizes after Man v. Food ended. How did he do it? He changed his diet. He cut white flour and dairy out of his diet. A strict exercise program also helped him shed the pounds.

Adam Richman gave a glimpse into his change in diet when he revealed what he ate compared to what his film crew ate. “The crew got a bunch of pizzas, and it was all I could smell,” he told the outlet. “It sucked. But I had a Greek yogurt with raw almonds, water and an iced coffee, and I was satisfied.”
Adam Richman has long moved on from Man v. Food. However, he looked back fondly on the show. “Man v. Food was the biggest career-defining opportunity. I went from anonymity to someone of note with access to amazing eateries,” he said.

What He’s Doing Now
Adam Richman gave up competitive eating years ago, but he never completely left food behind. He’s hosted multiple food-centric shows since Man v. Food ended. He’s a regular contributor to History’s The Food That Built America, which explores the origins of everything from pizza to candy.
Adam Richman Eats Italy aired on Food Network UK and Discovery+ earlier this year. The Travel Channel revived Man v. Food in 2017 with Casey Webb as host. It went off the air in 2022. Adam Richman successfully lost weight after changing his diet. Share your weight loss story in the comments.
