Meghan McCain Has ‘No Desire’ to Return to ‘The View’ & Wants To Be Left Alone

What To Know

  • Meghan McCain publicly stated she has no desire to return to The View and described her time on the show as “very painful.”
  • She criticized ongoing media speculation and harassment of current and former hosts.
  • McCain’s comments received mixed reactions online, with some accusing her of hypocrisy.

The rumor mill is abuzz about former hosts potentially returning to The View for its upcoming 30th season, but one person who has no plans to return to the panel is Meghan McCain.

McCain, who served as a co-host on the ABC daytime talk show from 2017 to 2021, took to social media on Thursday (August 6) to make it clear she has no desire ever to come back. She also described her tenure on the show as a “very painful time” in her life and blasted “gossip reporters” for harassing current and former hosts.

“I am in the middle of trying to pack my 6th month old baby for a family trip and a page six reporter who has constantly harassed me personally for years is apparently attempting to write an article about my time at the view – which is now FIVE years ago in the past,” she wrote on X.

She continued, “As I have expressed explicitly, that was a very painful time in my life both personally and professionally. This addiction that both the show and gossip reporters have with harassing current and ex hosts continues to be insane. I truly wish that culture would change.”

McCain concluded her post, writing, “I ask only to be left alone and have no desire or plans to ever return to the show.”

Speculation about McCain returning to The View came after fellow ex-host Rosie O’Donnell claimed the show was inviting former co-hosts back for its milestone 30th season. O’Donnell herself said she would return as a guest, though executive producer Brian Teta later denied it, saying plans are still in the works and invites have not gone out.

McCain received mixed reactions to her post, with some agreeing with her sentiments and others calling her out for hypocrisy.

“Yet here you are, not even TWO MONTHS AGO, talking s*** about a show that has no desire to rehire you,” wrote one X user alongside a post McCain made back in June about Vice President JD Vance‘s appearance on The View.

“My biggest takeaway from Vance on The View is honestly how s****y and undisciplined the hosts STILL ARE,” McCain wrote. “After all these years they still get basics facts wrong, flub easy questions and can’t get through a segment without yelling at each other.”

Another commenter added, “OK, but if you’re looking for more privacy, why are you posting about it on social media?”

“But you’re always talking about it too. The more you talk about it the more reporters want to know about what your claims are,” said another.

“You attack people constantly on this site. You reap what you sow,” one user added.

Others showed more sympathy, including one fan who wrote, “I’m sorry it was a bad experience for you. I really enjoyed seeing you on the show.”

“You were the best host on! I would love to see you on another show,” said another.

“They do it to keep the show relevant because they’re grasping at straws for viewership,” another added.
