Meghan Trainor‘s husband, Spy Kids star Daryl Sabara, just revealed a devastating family loss — the death of his father, Roland Sabara.
On Friday, June 19, Daryl, 34, took to Instagram with a photo of his dad and a heartbreaking tribute. “My Dad, Roland Sabara, passed away last night,” he announced.
The bereaved son continued, “We only saw each other a couple of times, and I will cherish those memories forever. I know he did the best he could, and I know he’s in a better place now.”
Daryl is best known for playing Juni Cortez alongside Alexa PenaVega in the 2001 film Spy Kids and its two sequels, Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams (2002), and Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over (2003). He also portrayed T.J. Taylor in Wizards of Waverly Place.
In the comments, Daryl’s fans flooded him with kind messages in the wake of his dad’s death. Nicole Scherzinger shared, “I’m so sorry, Daryl. Sending you love and prayers and condolences, my friend.”
Fellow Disney Channel alum Jordan Fisher (who appeared in Liv and Maddie) wrote, “Big big love to you, my friend.”
Twilight star Taylor Lautner commented, “Praying for peace, my brother.”
Someone else echoed, “I’m so incredibly sorry to hear this, Daryl. Sending you all my love.”
Meanwhile, yet another Instagram user wrote, “I can’t imagine how you and your family must be feeling. Wishing you all the best.”
In 2018, Daryl married the “All About That Bass” pop star, 32. He and Meghan now have three children: sons Riley, 6, and Barry, nearly 3, and a daughter, Mikey, born in January.
Daryl told People during a 2023 interview, shortly before Barry was born, that becoming a father had been “cathartic” for him. His mother, Sandy Sabara, raised Daryl and his twin sister, Eve Sabara, as a single mom.
“I’ll say that it’s pretty amazing because I didn’t have a dad growing up,” he explained. “My dad left my family when I was 1. So becoming a dad has kind of given me this existential experience of getting to become the dad that I always wanted.”
