Taking verbal shots at the trio made Sophia Petrillo (Estelle Getty) a fan favorite on NBC’s The Golden Girls, while her antics, which included dishing out tough love and curses, and charming guest stars Burt Reynolds and Julio Iglesias, earned Getty an Emmy nomination for each of The Golden Girls‘ seven seasons (and one trophy).
Sophia is just one of the “Girls” MeTV will be showcasing with a month-long celebration of The Golden Girls with ‘The Golden Girls of Summer’ beginning on June 8.
