What To Know

  • Nancy Guthrie, mother of Today‘s Savannah Guthrie, has been missing for 100 days since her suspected abduction.
  • Close friend Lauren Serpa is urging the public and community to stay vigilant and keep Nancy’s case in mind.
  • Savannah Guthrie recently expressed her determination to find Nancy, vowing not to give up hope.

As the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie reached the 100-day mark on Monday (May 11), a close friend of the missing 84-year-old spoke out, urging the public not to forget about the case.

“Even in Tucson, where it happened, it’s starting to fizzle out, and I don’t want that to happen,” Lauren Serpa, who has been friends with Nancy for over 12 years, told Page Six. “It’s been 100 days, and people are starting not to forget, but not to think about it as much.”

Nancy, the mother of Today‘s Savannah Guthrie, has been missing since February 1, when police believe she was abducted from her home in Tucson, Arizona. While investigators have released doorbell camera footage of a masked suspect and a description of that individual, no suspects have been named.

Sherpa said that the community is still “supportive,” but noted, “People are starting to move on basically. That’s what happens when it doesn’t affect their lives. So that’s why I’m trying to keep it in the forefront as much as possible.”

“It’s really important that it’s in the back of their head all the time in case they do see something or they hear somebody say something…,” she added. “Then they can report it. But, you know, if they’re not thinking about it, then they wouldn’t even think about anything that somebody would say.”

Sherpa encouraged members of the public to “pay attention to their surroundings” and “really listen to what people are saying that are standing behind you in line.”

She also said her heart is with the Guthrie family. “It just breaks my heart. You know, the family is going through so much,” she continued, adding, “It just doesn’t make any sense. None of it does.”

“What is so sad is that we are at 100 days. I know it shouldn’t take this long,” Sherpa concluded.

Sherpa’s comments follow Savannah’s emotional Mother’s Day tribute to Nancy on Sunday (May 10). “Mother, daughter, sister, Nonie — we miss you with every breath,” the Today host wrote alongside a slideshow of photos of her mom. “We will never stop looking for you. We will never be at peace until we find you.”
