NBC Anchor Johnathon O’Halloran Abruptly Quits
Most television viewers have no idea who Johnathon O’Halloran is. But he’s very familiar to the residents of Johnstown, Pennsylvania and its surrounding areas. He’s been the anchor of WJAC-TV’s 6 News at Sunrise since 2024. Before joining the NBC-affiliated station, he won a New York Emmy for a news piece on an alleged cancer cluster at Colonia High School in New Jersey while working at PIX11 News.
The Woodbridge, New Jersey, native graduated from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 2020. He earned a bachelor’s degree in communications and digital media. When he wasn’t studying, he was the school’s famed mascots, D’Artagnan the Musketeer and the Blue Blob, roles he held for his entire college career.
Johnathon O’Halloran revealed on social media on Monday, September 14, that his time at the NBC station was coming to an end. “My final send off this morning on 6 News at Sunrise,” he wrote in an emotional goodbye. “For the last two years and some months, I’ve had the absolute honor of sitting at the anchor desk at WJAC. And while there are so many people to thank, the most important thanks goes to you at home.”
He Teases New Job
The news anchor opened up about joining the network several years ago. “I came here in June of 2024 without knowing a soul, and you immediately accepted me into your community. I’ll always be grateful for that. I’ve come to meet so many of you, who were always so kind,” he shared.
But now it’s time to leave. “While I’m excited for what’s next, and I’ll have more on that in the coming days,” he teased. Johnathon O’Halloran ended his emotional post, “Please know this area will forever have a special place in my heart, and no matter where I go, I’ll always be rooting for the amazing people of these ten counties I’ve had the privilege of calling home.”
Viewers were heartbroken over the news of his departure. His post was flooded with well-wishes and appreciation for his reporting during the last two years.
