Mark Harmon has spent years as part of the NCIS franchise, bringing Leroy Jethro Gibbs to life. In addition to appearing as the character onscreen on the main show, he’s also served as a narrator in the NCIS: Origins spin-off. Recently, however, he’s had some big news to share with fans.

Harmon is known to many for his role as Leroy Jethro Gibbs on NCIS. Initially appearing as the character in two episodes of JAG, he later starred in the NCIS spin-off from 2003 to 2021.
In 2024, three years after his departure from the show, Harmon became part of the prequel series, NCIS: Origins. Last year, he even made a physical appearance during a Veterans Days crossover event between both shows.
However, it’s recently been announced that Harmon is set to star on Origins for a season-long arc. He will appear in all the episodes of the third season as part of a present-day mystery connected to his Camp Pendleton days.
Fans Shared Their Reactions On Social Media, With Some Hoping To See Harmon Back On The Main Show Someday
The Veterans Day crossover appeared to set up the upcoming arc. The story revolved around a younger Gibbs and his team investigating the small-town death of a naval officer on Origins, with it reopening in the main NCIS show.
The official NCIS Instagram account also announced Harmon’s return, sharing, “The story he never told enters a new chapter… Mark Harmon will return to NCIS: Origins as Gibbs for all episodes of Season 3.”
