‘NCIS’ Mid-Season Return Date Revealed For Episode 10

TV Shows

NCIS Season 22 started its midseason holiday break after just nine episodes. Like most other shows, it is about to return to continue its current season, and the wait won’t be much longer. As one of the longest-running police dramas in history, the show will be back soon.

Here is a look at when the show will return to CBS and what you need to know.

NCIS Return Date Announced

NCIS last aired with its ninth episode of the season, “Hamburg,” on Monday, December 16. That marked the start of the winter hiatus, and there were fewer episodes aired for the show at that point. Usually, the series premieres in September, but this season, it didn’t premiere until October, along with the new prequel series NCIS: Origins.

The good news is that the wait for more episodes has almost concluded. NCIS Season 22 returns with its tenth episode, “Baker’s Man,” on Monday, January 27. The synopsis is also already up on the Paramount website:

“After NCIS learns that the owner of Parker’s favorite bakery (guest star Melina Kanakaredes) is being blackmailed, they hatch a plan to save her from the perpetrators. Also, tensions heighten when Torres’ secret romance is discovered.”

This episode also remains notable because Rocky Carroll (Director Vance) is the director. Carroll, who has starred on the series since 2008 (for 368 total episode appearances), has directed 24 episodes during its run. This will mark his 25th. He also directed “Knight and Day” earlier this season (Episode 6).

NCIS Only One Of Two Remaining Shows In Franchise

It is not clear how much longer NCIS will continue to air. CBS has canceled many fan-favorite shows to attempt to “freshen” up the lineup. It canceled the recently rebooted CSI: Las VegasNCIS: Hawai’i, and Blue Bloods. It is also ending S.W.A.T. after this current season.

While it seems that NCIS is safe thanks to its high ratings, Blue Bloods was still getting high viewership when CBS canceled it, meaning the network doesn’t care if fans still love a show and will cancel anything if it means starting something new. CBS is currently pushing the Fire Country franchise, hoping it can have the legs of its past star franchises it recently ended.

NCIS: Origins is the newest addition to the franchise, replacing NCIS: Hawai’i and tells the story of Gibbs first starting work with the law enforcement agency. However, its numbers have dropped since the premiere. The first episode had 7.27 million viewers, and the last episode before the break only brought in 5.68 million.

The 10th episode of that show airs the same night the original returns.
