New Amsterdam star Janet Montgomery has opened up about rebuilding her life after she and her husband Joe Fox separated just 10 days after welcoming their second child.

The British actress, who played Dr. Lauren Bloom on the NBC drama series, shared a lengthy post on Instagram on Monday (June 8), revealing that her “life changed in a way” she could never have imagined last year.

“Just ten days after welcoming my beautiful son into the world, I found myself navigating the heartbreak of becoming a single mother to two children,” Montgomery wrote.

She continued, “There were moments I wasn’t sure how I would make it through the next hour, let alone the next day. Grief, exhaustion, fear, uncertainty, and the overwhelming responsibility of showing up for two little people who needed me no matter what.”

The 40-year-old actress, who is set to star in the upcoming spinoff The Rookie: North, started dating creative director and copywriter Fox in November 2017. They welcomed a daughter, Sunday Juno Fox, in March 2019, and got married in Jamaica in December 2019.

“Over the past ten months, so many of you have followed along as I shared the messy, beautiful, painful, joyful reality of rebuilding a life,” Montgomery added. “You celebrated Sunday’s milestones, watched Milo grow, checked in on me during the darkest days, and reminded me that even through a screen, people can show extraordinary kindness.”

The Scarpetta star said that opening up online has been “frightening” at times, but she has found confidence by the “messages, comments, encouragement, and support” that “have often arrived exactly when [she] needed them most.”

“This chapter has tested me more than any other in my life, but it has also shown me the incredible strength that exists in community,” she added. “Thank you for holding space for our story. Thank you for letting me share it. Thank you for helping me feel a little less alone.”

Montgomery is also known for her lead role as Mary Sibley in the WGN America series Salem and her recurring role as Olivia Maine in NBC’s This Is Us. She also recently had a recurring part as Hillary in the Yellowstone prequel series 1923.
