It’s almost time for Grey’s Anatomy to return to your screens for its landmark 23rd season, and the first video preview indicates exactly what disaster lies ahead for the Grey Sloan team: In the teaser, we learn that the surgeons will have to get to work on an incoming trauma as two planes collide on the runway.
This isn’t the first time Grey’s has seen planes crashing, and it may not be the last, but from the looks of the preview, perhaps none of our favorite doctors will be involved this time… other than responding to the victims, of course.
Elsewhere in the teaser, we also see that Jules Millin (Adelaide Kane) and Winston Ndugu (Anthony Hill) are still going strong, while Simone Griffith (Alexis Floyd) is getting her own McSteamy, as Lucas Adams (Niko Terho) is shown exiting a shower with a smile and a “good morning” for her after what must have been an eventful night.
Catherine Fox (Debbie Allen) is also introducing a VIP floor to the hospital alongside Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.), and Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) will return to the hospital “just in time for the chaos,” in her own words.

Showrunner Meg Marinis exclusive told TV Insider a bit about what fans can expect in Season 23, teasing that the hospital is going to have some rebounding to do after both Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) and Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) decided to leave. “Grey Sloan is now down two exceptional attending surgeons, one of whom was the Chief of Surgery, so we’re going to see how the hospital rebounds from that loss. It will not be an easy adjustment.”
She also said there’ll be some adjustments to be made when it comes to Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington) and Atticus “Link” Lincoln (Chris Carmack). “Jo is a fighter, as we know, but this will definitely be a time of personal discovery and growth for her,” Marinis said. “[Link] hasn’t really been able to come up for air and as a result, he’s started pushing his own health and needs aside. We’ll have to wait and see whether this couple can open up to each other truthfully about their different pain and help each other heal.”
