The next legal thrill-ride is kicking off production. Discretion, which received a straight-to-series order from Paramount+ back in October 2025, is now in production, the streamer confirmed on August 13.
The series’ cast is led by Nicole Kidman and Elle Fanning and adapts a short story from Chandler Baker, who based it on her own firsthand experiences and who also writes and executive produces the series.

When does Discretion premiere?
Paramount+ hasn’t revealed the premiere date just yet, but they confirmed the start of production in August. The eight-episode series is expected to premiere on the streamer in 2027.

What is Discretion about?
The official description for the series tells us, “Discretion is a legal thriller about a summer associate, Lenny, at a prestigious Dallas law firm who uncovers a web of NDAs masking a dark truth. When she realizes she signed the same agreement, her discoveries put her in the crosshairs of the firm’s most powerful female partner, Sharon (Kidman) — upending their mentor-protégé dynamic and raising the question: who gets to keep secrets, and at what cost?”
The story is based on Baker’s own experience in the world of law. Baker shared on Instagram that the story, which she wrote in two days, was “inspired by [her] time as a corporate lawyer negotiating hundreds of NDAs a year.”
Who stars in Discretion?
Leading the cast are Nicole Kidman as Sharon, described by Paramount+ as “the commanding senior law partner who hides secrets behind her success.” Elle Fanning’s character, Lenny, is described as “the young law associate whose shocking discovery unravels everything at Sharon’s prestigious firm.” Josh Lucas‘ Greg is also a lawyer at the firm… and Sharon’s husband.
Meanwhile, James plays Logan, a corporate associate and mentor to Lenny, and Ryan stars as Boone, Lenny’s ex-boyfriend from a wealthy family who is in recovery.
The series was produced by A24, with distribution rights snapped up by Paramount+ in a bidding war.
