It’s been announced that the Netflix series Outer Banks will be coming back for a fith season. However, this season will also be the series’ swan song, marking the show’s end. This comes out a few days before the release of the second half of the fourth season.

The Fourth Season Will Finish Up This November

Outer Banks takes place in the titular area in North Carolina. The story sees two groups of teenagers face off to find a missing treasure. In the series, the community is divided between the wealthy “Kooks” and the working-class “Pogues.”

Fans can expect more to come from the series, even after the fourth season finishes up. It’s recently been announced that the series has been renewed for a fifth season. However, the upcoming season is also expected to be its last.

Series showrunners Jonas Pate, Josh Pate and Shannon Burke explained the decision to end the show after five seasons in a “Dispatch to all Pogues.” This is a reference to the nickname working-class locals are given in the series.

As they revealed, according to Deadline, the series will run as long as intended. As they shared, “From this beginning, we imagined a mystery that would lead to a five-season journey of adventure, treasure hunting, and friendship.” They continued, “it seemed impossible that we would really get to tell the whole five-season story.”

The Showrunners Hope Fans Will Like What Outer Banks Still Has To Offer

The showrunners also revealed they are already working on the fifth season. As they shared, “With a little sadness, but also excitement, we’re putting Season Four behind us, and are turning to Season Five, in which we hope to bring our beloved Pogues home in the way we imagined and planned years ago.”

While acknowledging the fifth season would be the series’ last, the showrunners felt it would “be our best yet.” The group also talked about what it was like working on the fourth season. Ultimately, they felt that it “was our longest and hardest — but most rewarding — to produce.”

The fourth season is also expected to end with a feature-length episode. The showrunners noted that they considered it “our best, most powerful episode. We hope you feel the same way.”

They ultimately ended the note writing, “We hope you’ll join us for one more paddle out to the surf break.” It was signed off with “P4L,” standing for “Pogues For Life,” decorated with lightning bolts.
