Parents Angry At Controversial Show Airing On Disney+

TV Shows

Disney merged with Fox in 2019. Since then, most of the more adult-oriented Fox shows and movies went onto Hulu while the more family-friendly offerings went onto Disney+. However, more recently, the streaming service merged with Hulu, and people subscribed to both can see everything on the app. This means there are some shows available that some parents remain concerned with.

One of the more controversial additions has shown up on the main screen as an option to advertise the Hulu merging, and parents are protesting.

Parents Not Happy About New Disney+ Addition

After the Fox acquisition, this brought in a lot of shows and movies that might not be what people think of when they consider the Mouse House. Movies like Alien and TV shows like Archer and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia found a home on Hulu. Now, fans can see these shows, and more, on the Disney+ streaming service.

Disney+ and Hulu

A new show starting to show up on the main screen promoting Hulu shows on Disney+ now is American Horror Story. While it is one of the most popular shows on Hulu, this is not something that many parents want to flash onto their screen when turning on the streaming service to watch a Princess movie with their kids.

It has also got to the point where some parents don’t think anyone should be able to watch it on Disney+ because its horror themes don’t match the “family values” of Disney entertainment (via X).

  • My favorite part about the new @DisneyPlus and @hulu merge, is now when I open up Disney+ to watch something with my kids, the first thing we see is American Horror Stories.”
  • “Was suprised seeing how many horror movies were on Disney+ but I love Alien”
  • “It is so weird seeing AHS banner on Disney plus then to see some Disney Junior show banner next to it. lmao This merger is on crack.”
  • “@DisneyPlus There is no reason that any of my Disney profiles need to be advertising things like American Horror Story. This is unacceptable. Even on the adult profile.”

While many parents might feel Disney+ shouldn’t have shows like American Horror Story advertised next to a Disney Junior show, there is a parental controls option to ensure no one can watch it unless they log in under an adult account.

Disney+ Includes Several Adult Movies & Shows

Disney also won’t likely block adults from watching what they want on the service based on people who think the studio is just for family movies and shows. It has made adult-themed movies for years under Touchstone Pictures, although it was just a pseudonym for the studio.

Also, internationally there is a streaming service called Disney Plus Star where the Fox product lives. This includes R-rated movies like Alien and Die Hard. It also includes TV shows like It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and American Horror Story. The streaming service also just released its first mature-rated Marvel series in Echo. In America, at least there are parental controls, so people who want to watch AHS can, and those who are offended can block adult content.

For fans who love American Horror Story, the second half of its current season, Delicate, just launched on Wednesday night. The episodes air the next day on Hulu, and subscribers with Disney+ can watch it there as well.

What are your thoughts about shows like American Horror Story appearing on Disney+ with a Hulu subscription? Should it be hidden when it comes to Hulu promotion purposes? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
