When Parenthood stars Peter Krause and Sarah Ramos stepped into TV Insider’s studio at the ATX TV Festival, they hadn’t seen each other in several years. However, it was like no time had passed between the onscreen father and daughter as they reminisced about the beloved family drama.
The NBC series, which ran for six seasons, followed the Braverman family through all of their ups and downs over the years, and the love amongst the characters translated off-screen. “It was an off-camera family as well,” Krause told TV Insider. “We all really enjoyed working with each other. It was really fun to go to work. It was not a grind at all, ever.”
Krause and Ramos, who played Adam and Haddie Braverman, had a natural father-and-daughter energy when the cameras weren’t rolling.”I remember once, I think I backed my car into a pole, and it was in the shop, and then you were like, ‘Do you want to borrow my car?’” Ramos recalled. The actress acknowledged how “trusting” Krause was to lend his younger costar his car.
“You returned it to me, and I remember I had some CDs in there,” the upcoming Line of Fire star said. He then told Ramos, “You gave me some props on some of the music and some of it not so much.” Ramos added, “I also did that with Michael B. Jordan [who played Alex, Haddie’s boyfriend]. We exchanged playlists, and he hated my playlist, and I didn’t care much for his, either.”

While discussing the Parenthood road trip episode from Season 3, Ramos recalled introducing Krause to Taylor Swift. “Peter wasn’t familiar with Taylor Swift’s oeuvre,” Ramos noted. “I was at the peak of my Taylor Swift obsession. I was just getting into it, and I blasted Taylor Swift music and sang along at like 5 a.m.”
Krause admitted that he had “no idea” who Taylor Swift was at the time. (The episode aired in 2012.) Ramos then asked her former onscreen dad, “When you think of Taylor Swift, do you think of me?” He replied, “I do. I do.” Ramos, a true Swiftie, pointed out that their conversation was very reminiscent of Swift’s “Tim McGraw” track.
As they looked back at their time on the Parenthood sets, Ramos recalled that the stairway at Adam and Kristina’s house “didn’t go up to an actual upstairs because it was a set, and we would leave notes there.”
Krause said, “And that was where you introduced me to the term ‘meanager,’ which I had never heard ‘meanager’ before.” He explained that Ramos would leave notes at the top of the stairs as she waited in a scene. “Sarah would write little notes up there, and one of them was, ‘I’m just a meanager.’”
