The newest sports comedy series is a hysterical one. The Hawk stars Will Ferrell as Lonnie “The Hawk” Hawkins, a professional golfer looking to make the ultimate comeback after a fall from grace. To complete his mission, he must defeat his arch nemesis, Golden Fisk (Luke Wilson), and his own up-and-coming son, Lance (Jimmy Tatro). The Hawk is no ordinary golf pro, though; his caddy, Sam (Fortune Feimster), was plucked from a Walmart parking lot, and he wears the wackiest clothes the tournament has ever seen… but the fans love his unique moxie.
The series’ first season, which premiered on Thursday (July 16), brings a satisfying conclusion to the story of The Hawk, but it leaves room open for more. So is The Hawk going to fly once again? Here’s what we know so far. Warning: The following post contains spoilers for The Hawk Season 1.
Is The Hawk renewed for Season 2?
Not yet. Netflix hasn’t announced plans for a second season of the series, but given the popularity of its all-star cast, there’s a good chance it’ll get a second season order if enough audience members tune in for the first.
Who will star in The Hawk Season 2?
If renewed, Will Ferrell would almost certainly return to his wildcard title role as Lonnie. Plus, Jimmy Tatro would likely return as his son, and Molly Shannon would probably appear as his romance-rekindled wife, Stacy. Fortune Feimster could also return as Sam, and Luke Wilson could return as rival Golden Fisk. The first season also starred Chris Parnell as Anton, Katelyn Tarver as Natalie, David Hornsby as Radford, Gabriel Hogan as Jerry, and Aida Osman as Crystal. One actor who likely would not return for Season 2 is Keith David, whose caddie character died very early on in Season 1.
Where did The Hawk Season 1 leave off?
In the first season’s finale, Lonnie lost the U.S. Open to Lance after whiffing a final putt. He claimed to have done so on purpose, after imagining his son being murdered by loan sharks, but he seemed unsure about whether that was true when later asked about it by Sam. Though his hand was badly injured, that didn’t stop Lonnie before, so perhaps he’s ready for another comeback tour.
