A new book-to-screen mystery series is coming to Peacock! Megan Gallagher, the writer/creator of 2025’s All Her Fault, will lead the charge to bring Katherine Faulkner’s best-selling novel, The Break-In, to the small screen.
The streamer confirmed news of the new show on June 4, nine months after the August 2025 release of Faulkner’s book of the same name. “It’s an absolute dream to see The Break-In being brought to the screen by this exceptional, world-class team whose passion for the story has been evident from the very beginning,” Faulkner gushed.

What is The Break-In about?
The synopsis for the show is as follows: “In the aftermath of a devastating home invasion, Alice Rathbone refuses to accept that the tragic event was simply random. Desperate for answers, Alice starts pulling at threads and soon finds a trail of dark secrets that spiral closer to home than she could ever have imagined.”
Per Faulkner, the story is “about motherhood, privilege and guilt, the devastating consequences of lies, and the dark secrets that can exist beneath the surface of even the most seemingly perfect lives.”
The book’s description gives more insight into Alice’s story, noting that she’s “hosting a playdate with friends at her upscale London home when a disturbed man breaks in. With her child in the next room, Alice panics and kills him, an act later ruled to have been in self-defense.”
As Alice tries to move on with her life, strange comments begin appearing online, a mysterious phone call tells her “all is not as it seems,” and her husband, nanny, and friends start “behaving strangely,” leading Alice “drawn to the mystery of who her intruder really was.” Her investigation “discovers a trail of dark secrets that spiral closer to home than she ever could have imagined.”
