What To Know

  • Rainn Wilson addressed his tense July 2023 appearance on Bill Maher’s Club Random podcast.
  • Wilson revealed that Maher had a tumbler of Scotch and was smoking, claiming he was ‘wasted.’
  • Wilson also expressed frustration that Maher was unaware he was promoting his book Soul Boom during the interview.

Rainn Wilson just made a blunt claim about Bill Maher while explaining his tense appearance on the late-night host’s Club Random podcast.

On the July 15 episode of the Office Hours Live With Tim Heidecker podcast, Wilson, 60, revealed why his July 2023 interview with Maher, 70, on Club Random was so strained.

“I remember when you did it, it was kind of a thing,” Tim Heidecker told Wilson. “Because you were kind of incredulous with him. You were just like, ‘What the hell is your problem? Why are you being such a jerk?’”

He then played a clip of Wilson scolding the Real Time With Bill Maher host in a fed-up moment. The Office star told the stand-up comedian, “Bill, when you have a podcast, you need to ask your guests some questions and let them talk every once in a f***ing while.”

That’s when Wilson made his confession. “I did not expect him to show up wasted,” he said. “It was a tumbler of Scotch and something that he was smoking. So, it was an interesting conversation.”

When asked what the “flash point” was in his chat with Maher, Wilson explained, “It was kind of like pushing back on everything.”

He also acknowledged, “When I used to party a little bit in my 20s, before things went south, I could be that person. You know? I was that person with the Scotch and a spliff.”

Additionally, the actor, who played Dwight in The Office, admitted, “It was a little strange because I had written a book. I was promoting a book, Soul Boom. And he obviously had zero idea that I had written a book and wasn’t promoting the book.”

As of writing, Maher has not publicly responded to Wilson’s remarks. Real Time With Bill Maher is currently on a summer hiatus; however, the show will return on Friday, July 31.
