Reba McEntire and Rex Linn knew each other for decades before their friendship turned to romance. The real-life couple got engaged in 2024 but has yet to walk down the aisle. They’ve pushed the wedding back several times. Now, they’re opening up about a shocking split. Keep reading for all the details.
Reba McEntire & Rex Linn Open Up About Shocking Split
Reba McEntire and Rex Linn’s first time working together was on 1991’s The Gambler Returns: The Luck of the Draw. They stayed friends for years before reuniting in 2020 on Young Sheldon. A dinner date led to romance. With COVID restrictions in place, the couple connected through video calls.

They later starred on ABC’s Big Sky, playing a married couple with a shocking secret. Rex Linn’s character was a serial killer and his wife knew it all along. NBC launched the sitcom Happy’s Place in 2024. Reba McEntire plays the lead role while her real-life fiance plays the bar’s short-order cook, Emmett.
Much like their real-life counterparts, Emmett and Bobbie’s friendship turned to romance. However, they broke up on the Season 3 premiere after Bobbie found out Emmett knew about her half-sister for years without telling her. Reba McEntire and Rex Linn opened up about the shocking split.
Emmett and Bobbie still have to work together, making it awkward in the bar. “I love how they’ve got us coming back to at least speaking terms and making an agreement to not have space anymore,” Rex Linn told TV Insider.
“I don’t know what’s gonna happen with Bobbie and Emmett, but I think Emmett’s sadder than Bobbie is about this old breakup. I think he’s a little bit more hurt than she is,” Reba McEntire added. Bobbie may not be hurting as much because a new man has entered the picture.
Reba McEntire Teases New Happy’s Place Romance
In a full-circle moment, James Denton joined Happy’s Place years after starring alongside Reba McEntire on Reba. The Desperate Housewives alum plays JB, a bar patron who catches Bobbie’s eye.
“Last season, Emmett had Monica, and so that was Bobbie on the sideline, and now this season James Denton becomes a love interest for Bobbie [and] that leaves Emmett in the kitchen,” she teased to TV Insider. However, she said she’s “always” rooting for Emmett.

Rex Linn shared his hope for his character’s future with Bobbie. “I don’t know if it’s gonna be good for the show if we get back together, but secretly, I’m hoping we do,” the actor said.
It seems that Bobbie and Emmett are done for now while she explores her options. But will viewers accept a new romance? Stay tuned to see how it plays out. Happy’s Place airs Fridays on NBC at 8 PM Eastern.
