Rosie O’Donnell Reacts to Kathy Griffin Being ‘Really Hurt’ Over ‘Kimmel’ Snub

Rosie O’Donnell has responded to her good friend Kathy Griffin after the latter shared a video saying she was “really hurt” that she wasn’t invited onto this week’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Earlier this week, Griffin posted a video on YouTube titled, “If Rosie Would’ve Called, I Would’ve Jumped,” in which she shared her disappointment about not being asked on the show. O’Donnell is serving as guest host this week amid Kimmel’s summer hiatus.

“My feelings were really hurt that I was not invited to go on Rosie’s week of the Jimmy Kimmel show,” Griffin said. “I love Jimmy so much. He’s one of my oldest friends… I love Rosie; she’s one of my oldest friends.”

Griffin later shared a clip of the video on her Instagram page, which caught O’Donnell’s attention. The former View co-host jumped into the comments, writing, “Kathy – shoulda called me honey – I didn’t choose the guests….”

O’Donnell’s guests this week have included Jean Smart, Hannah Waddingham, Richard Gadd, Ana Gasteyer, Charlie Day, and Janelle James. She is scheduled to chat with Megan Mullally, Nick Offerman, and Shawn Hatosy on Thursday’s (August 20) show.

In the video, Griffin said she recently broached the subject of appearing on the show when she and O’Donnell were on a flight together. “She didn’t say anything about me being a guest. And I thought, ‘Well, she’s the guest host, she may have no say in it,’” the comedian explained. “And, to this day, I don’t know if she has any say in it. As far as I know, she could or could not. I really… How would I know, right?”

Griffin said she started to get excited as O’Donnell’s guest stint grew closer, especially as friends kept calling her to ask which night she was appearing on the show. “I admit I was kind of getting excited. Like, yeah, this could be a really cool moment. Then that moment passed. And kept passing,” she stated.

Even though the invite never came, Griffin said she is fully behind O’Donnell’s return to network television. “She’s doing a great job and will continue to. If I have one call to action, it’s that you guys watch the show and support her,” she told her followers. “I just think it’s a tricky situation because I’m having all kinds of the feels. I will watch every night and cheer her on, of course.”
