While much of Savannah Guthrie‘s recent social media feed has been about her mother Nancy Guthrie‘s disappearance, the Today host shared a positive post in honor of a special family occasion.
On Thursday, August 13, Savannah took to Instagram to celebrate her daughter Vale’s 12th birthday. “On this day, 12 years ago. I will never forget this joy,” she captioned the heartfelt tribute. “Happy birthday to my dearest Vale, growing up so beautiful, kind, soulful and wise. I thank God for you every day.”
The post’s first slide featured a sweet photo of Vale as a newborn. Other slides included a snap of Savannah holding her eldest child in the hospital, as well as sharing a snuggle with Vale and her husband, Mike Feldman. (Savannah shares Vale and her son, Charley, with Feldman, whom she married in 2014.)
Fans gushed over Savannah’s throwback photos and sent Vale their birthday wishes in the post’s comments. “What a precious baby and a gifted, dynamic and incredible 12 year old!!! HBD Vale!!!!” one person wrote. Another added, “What a precious baby and a gifted, dynamic and incredible 12 year old!!! HBD Vale!!!!”
Someone else shared, “Happy Birthday to Vale! She is beautiful!!” A different person posted, “Thanks for sharing Savannah, she’s beautiful! Happy Birthday to Vale.” A separate commenter stated, “OMG!! You’ll have a teenager next year! What a beautiful blessing… Such happy memories. God bless you all and happy birthday Vale!”
Savannah’s Instagram upload marked a rare photo of her daughter, as her Instagram feed in recent months has featured several Today clips and posts related to her mother’s case. Nancy was abducted from her Arizona home in February, and authorities have yet to name any suspects in the case.
Shortly before she returned to Today after a months-long break in April, Savannah Guthrie opened up about how her kids were dealing with Nancy’s disappearance in a sit-down interview with Hoda Kotb.
“It’s so hard with kids because, you know, you want to protect them,” she shared. “Vale would write me all the time, [saying,] ‘Mama, any leads? You hear anything? Any hope?’ And I think that, you know, we try to talk to them and try to give them a little more certainty than we have, to let them grieve.”
While guest-hosting Today With Jenna & Sheinelle in June, Savannah told Jenna Bush Hager that she’s teaching her kids how to navigate grief while also celebrating happy moments. “I try to tell my kids that, too. We can hold our sadness, and we can hold our joy,” she said. “And if you don’t believe it, just watch me. I’m gonna show you.”
