He might not make the Will Trent return so many fans are clamoring for, but Scott Foley is returning to one ABC show, at least. The network’s new trailer for Season 2 of the Scrubs revival series shows Foley returning to play Sean Kelly, the once and possible future boyfriend of Sarah Chalke’s Elliot Reid.
“Cool. Cool, cool, cool,” an overwhelmed Elliot says as she sees Sean again, right before backing into J.D. Dorian’s (Zach Braff) cafeteria table. “Very cool.”
The trailer also shows other returning stars from the original Scrubs run, including Christopher Turk (Donald Faison), Carla Espinosa (Judy Reyes), Perry Cox (John C. McGinley), and Jordan (Christa Miller).
We also get another look at Charlie, the Rachel Bilson character who is J.D.’s new love interest, and a first glimpse of Mimi, a new scrub nurse played by Keyla Monterroso Mejia. We also see Sam Tosh, the intern portrayed by Ava Bunn, who’s now a Scrubs series regular, according to Deadline.

Not pictured — yet — is a new character played by former Saturday Night Live writer and actor John Higgins, who appeared in the sketch-comedy show’s Please Don’t Destroy digital shorts. Higgins will play Grant, a chief resident who will annoy J.D. the same way J.D. once annoyed Dr. Cox, per Deadline. The site also notes Faison raved about Higgins and Bunn at a D23 Scrubs panel that Foley moderated on Saturday.
“John Higgins joins the cast,” Faison said. “It’s been a lot of fun to watch him work — actually, him and Ava Bunn, who plays Tosh. They’ve been great additions.”
The Scrubs reboot’s first season was the No. 1 new comedy in terms of multi-platform audience last season. And Braff, who’s also an executive producer of the rebooted Scrubs, previously hyped up Season 2, the 11th season of the comedy series overall.
“I feel like we all learned so much in doing Season 1. So we learned what the audience really liked. We learned the tone,” he told People in June. “More guest stars will be back for the fans. I’ll tease that. Or we’re booking a lot of their fan favorites as we speak.”
