Brian Kleinschmidt took a trip down memory lane to when his and Mika Kleinschmidt‘s HGTV journey began.

On Saturday, June 13, Brian took to Instagram to share a clip of his and Mika’s original HGTV audition video, which they filmed in 2017. In the footage, Mika joked around with Brian while showing off their kitchen sink.

“Hey, guys! Back in the kitchen. Check it out. How many dishes can I fit in this beautiful farmhouse sink?” she stated. “And then, check out this unique and sleek faucet, which also can be used as a husband whacker!”

Brian flipped the camera on himself and made a funny face in reaction to Mika’s comment. He replied, “And by the way, she doesn’t know anything about dishes. I do all the dishes. The rules in the house: I clean, she cooks,” he quipped. The clip ends with Mika denying his claims, stating, “Nah!”

In the post’s caption, Brian wrote, “Never before seen cell’f shot footage from 2017 when we made a homemade sizzle reel for HGTV… We couldn’t have imagined where this little video and big dream would have taken us… What a wild ride it’s been.”

He added, “Thankful for this entire journey but we’re just getting warmed up… Stay Tuned.”

Fans gushed over the couple’s throwback footage in the post’s comments. “You look great with a goatee Brian & Mika please don’t hurt my friend Brian,” one user joked. Another added, “You 2 are awesome & talented hard workers.”

Someone else shared, “You two are amazing I love your show.” A different person posted, “Two of the most authentic people on HGTV! Many years of success & both still remain the same endearing people!” A separate commenter stated, “Tuned out to be a great show.”

Long before they were a couple on and off the small screen, Brian and Mika first met in high school. Brian went on to wed his ex-wife, Ericka Dunlap, and the two competed in Season 15 of The Amazing Race in 2009. Brian and Mika reconnected following his divorce in 2011. They tied the knot in 2015, after which Brian became the stepfather of Mika’s daughter, Jade, whom she welcomed with a previous partner.

Per Brian’s Instagram post, the duo filmed a sizzle reel for HGTV in 2017. Their flagship series, 100 Day Dream Home, premiered in 2020. The series, which aired its seventh season earlier this year, follows Brian and Mika as they help clients build their perfect house in three months.

The couple has appeared on a handful of HGTV series over the years, including Home Town Kickstart, Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge, Rock the Block, and 100 Day Hotel Challenge. Brian and Mika are also the designers behind this year’s HGTV Smart Home, the sweepstakes for which closes on Friday, June 19.

Earlier this month, Mika returned to HGTV as one of the three mentors in Season 5 of Battle on the Beach, alongside Ty Pennington and Sarah Baeumler.
