Shemar Moore Teases ‘The Young And The Restless’ Return

TV Shows

Before primetime television fans fell in love with Shemar Moore on Criminal Minds, he was a soap opera star. The current star of S.W.A.T. played Malcolm Winters on The Young and the Restless. The big news for the daytime soap opera’s fans is that Moore said he would return to the show.

Here is what Moore had to say about The Young and the Restless.

Shemar Moore Willing To Return To The Young And The Restless

Shemar Moore starred as Malcolm Winters on The Young and the Restless from 1994 until 2005. He also returned with guest appearances in 2014, 2019, and again in 2023. Malcolm is the half-brother of Neil Winters (Kristoff St. John) and had several conflicts with his brother. This includes getting Neil’s wife pregnant. His return in 2019 was after St. John died and Malcolm returned after Neil’s death on the show.

Moore surprisingly returned in May 2023 during The Young and the Restless 50th anniversary celebration. Once again, it was about Neil as Malcolm showed up to honor his brother at the Jazz Club. “I definitely did it for my dear brother. May he rest in peace,” Moore said after that return. Moore revealed that Kristoff St. John helped support him through the years and helped him grow as an actor (via First for Women).

Moore hints that he would love to return to the soap opera that made him a star. “If The Young and the Restless called me today, I would go,” he said. “Because you never forget where you came from. It sounds cliché and maybe cheesy, but it’s also true.”

Shemar Moore Also Left Open Possible Criminal Minds Return

Shemar Moore left Criminal Minds after 11 seasons, He returned in the next two seasons as a special guest but has yet to appear on the continued series, Criminal Minds: Evolution. Moore’s Derek Morgan and Matthew Gray Gubler’s Dr. Spencer Reid are the notable absences from that primetime procedural series.

Gubler’s absence was a scheduling conflict, but he said he would return if possible in future seasons. Moore’s role on S.W.A.T. won’t allow him to return to Criminal Minds. However, don’t count out a Derek return in the future. Along with his willingness to return to The Young and the Restless, Moore said he would appear on Criminal Minds if they called him.

For now, it is all about Moore finishing his run on S.W.A.T. The show recently had a sad loss as the show wrote out Kenny Johnson’s Luca after the character was shot and was forced to retire. This seventh season will be the last for the show on CBS.
