Shrinking Season 3 will not be its last. Apple TV renewed the Emmy-nominated comedy for a fourth season. The renewal came just before the Season 3 premiere in January 2025.
The Shrinking Season 4 renewal announcement confirmed that Jason Segel and Harrison Ford will return, as will the entire ensemble. Series co-creator Bill Lawrence said that Season 4 will be a big series reset, including a time jump, but that the characters you’ve known since Season 1 will still be there. Now, Marvel star Karen Gillan is joining the Shrinking Season 4 cast.
Shrinking follows a grieving therapist (Segel) who starts to break the rules and tell his clients exactly what he thinks. Ignoring his training and ethics, he finds himself making huge, tumultuous changes to people’s lives, including his own. Season 3 was all about moving forward after accepting and processing grief. Season 4 will ask what life is like after that.
“Season finale and end of this three-season story next week. Hope you dig it. (Excited to start [a] completely new story next year. Feels scary/risky/fun),” Lawrence tweeted on April 4 before the finale. In the replies, fans asked if Paul’s move means that Ford is leaving the show, and if a “completely new story” also means a completely new cast.
“Same EXACT cast next year,” Lawrence clarified, adding in another tweet, “He’s not going anywhere. Not an accident that Alice goes to college in Connecticut.”
Lawrence said at a PaleyFest event in Los Angeles on April 7 that Shrinking Season 4 can’t show Jimmy (Jason Segel) still stuck in grief.
“If the fourth season of this show came on and Jimmy was like, ‘I’ve been thinking about it. I’m still super sad about my wife,’ I’d be like, ‘Turn the TV off.’ You can’t do that again,” Lawrence said, per Variety. “So we’re hoping people feel it’s an incredibly optimistic and happy ending.”

Is Shrinking ending with Season 3?
Despite previous hints that Season 3 could be Shrinking‘s last, Apple TV confirmed the show will continue with its Season 4 renewal. There’s no word on whether Season 4 will be Shrinking‘s last.

Season 3 guest stars include series co-creator Brett Goldstein, returning guest stars Wendie Malick, Damon Wayans Jr., and Cobie Smulders, Michael J. Fox, Candice Bergen, Jeff Daniels, Sherry Cola, and Isabella Gomez.
Gillan joins the cast for Season 4, according to Variety. Details about her character are being kept under wraps for now.

Shrinking Season 3 premiered on Wednesday, January 28, on Apple TV with a one-hour episode. One episode will come out weekly after that. Season 3 has 11 episodes total. The finale came out on April 8.
Shrinking Season 3 is all about moving forward even if you don’t feel ready. Alice (Maxwell) is prepared to go to college, causing another big season of change in her and dad Jimmy’s life. Jimmy had a romantic prospect in Smulders’s Sofi, but he didn’t feel ready to move on romantically following his wife’s death. Everyone had to move on in their own way in this season. Thankfully, they have their found family to help them through the changes.
