Despite being at the center of a TLC reality show, Kody Brown is somewhat of a mystery when it comes to his work life and how exactly he supports a family of 18 children, not to mention various spouses.
The self-confessed polygamist is the star of Sister Wives, which follows Kody and his family, which was previously made up of four wives: Robyn Brown, Christine Brown, Meri Brown, and Janelle Brown. However, Christine, Meri, and Janelle split from Kody over the past year, leaving Robyn as the only wife remaining.
But how does Kody pay the bills? Read on for everything we know about the mysterious reality star.
What is Kody’s Net Worth?
According to the website Celebrity Net Worth, Kody is estimated to be worth $800,000.
Kody Was A Salesman
Sister Wives premiered in 2010, and in those early episodes, it was said that Kody worked in online ad sales, though exact details were few and far between.
Kody Worked With Firearms
According to E! News, Kody was the president of Das Hundhaus Firearms and Accessories in Sandy, Utah, up until 2004. However, Kody and his wife Meri reportedly filed for bankruptcy in 2005 prior to filming began on Sister Wives.
Does Kody Still Sell Firearms?
In March 2022, a user on the Sister Wives Reddit forum shared photos of Kody at a gun show, where he was allegedly selling firearms.
“We live in Southwest Missouri… and my husband spent this past weekend in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at their annual gun show,” they wrote alongside the photos.
Another Redditor described Kody as a “gun MLM,” explaining, “He is an authorized dealer for the companies that mass produce these modifications. The biggest difference is there is no pyramid scheme to it. You buy in bulk and sell to make your portion. Just like any retail store.”
A YouTuber also mentioned seeing Kody at the gun show and claimed he was selling a firearm accessory, the Strike Rail, for the AR-15.
His Daughter Has No Idea What He Does for Work
Gwendlyn Brown, the daughter of Kody and Christine, previously admitted that she doesn’t know what her father does for work (although she will now, if she reads this article).
“I still don’t know what the work he does is,” Gwendlyn said during one of her Sister Wives Season 17 recaps on YouTube.
When a fan asked why her father “hides” his work “in the gun business,” she responded, “I don’t know about that. From what I’ve seen, he tends to say that he’s investing in things, and I think he might just be uncomfortable with admitting that he’s in the gun business because of the political conflict about it.”
Kody Has His Own Production Company
After Sister Wives debuted in 2010, Kody set up his own production, Kody Brown Family Entertainment, LLC. The company is registered in Nevada and lists Robyn, Meri, Christine, and Janelle as members.
How Much is Kody Paid for Sister Wives?
According to The Sun US, Kody and the other four main cast members are paid somewhere between $25,000 to $40,000 per episode, based on comments by reality producer Terence Michael who estimated that reality families earn about 10 percent of a show’s per episode budget.
Kody is on Cameo
As with many reality television stars, Kody is on Cameo, the video-sharing website that allows celebrities to send personalized video messages to fans. Kody charges $99 for a video.
The Sister Wives Have Side Gigs
Kody’s wives (ex-wives) have been involved with numerous side businesses over the years. Meri oversees Lizzie’s Heritage Inn bed and breakfast in Utah, while Janelle owns Strive with Janelle, a website offering health and lifestyle coaching sessions.
Robyn previously ran the family’s “online jewelry and clothing line boutique, “My Sisterwife’s Closet,” though the website has not been updated since 2019.
And on May 15, 2020, Christine launched CBrown Quest, LLC, with the Arizona Corporation Commission. She is also available on Cameo.
