On August 7, Descendants fans were introduced to the young cast of Hidden Heroes: A Descendants Story. Now, the adult cast has finally been announced, and the ensemble includes a Disney on Broadway star and a Glee alum. Pull the lever, Kronk Jr.!
Hidden Heroes: A Descendants Story, “a new, music-and-dance-fueled movie expanding the Descendants universe,” is coming to Disney Channel and Disney+. An evolution of the second-generation Disney hero and villain franchise, Hidden Heroes is set to follow “the unsung heroes behind Disney’s greatest adventures — the sidekicks!”
Ayo Davis, president, Disney Kids & Family, revealed, “One of the things that has always made Descendants so special is the way it invites audiences to experience familiar Disney stories through an entirely new perspective. With Hidden Heroes, we’re finally putting the sidekicks center stage, because they’ve always been an essential part of Disney’s greatest adventures. It’s a fun, surprising new chapter that expands the Descendants universe with all the music, dance, and heart fans love and expect from the franchise.”

What is Hidden Heroes: A Descendants Story about?
Hidden Heroes is set to follow children of legendary Disney sidekicks (find out who below!) training at a secret facility. To us, it’s giving Sky High! Disney writes: “Hidden in the center of each fairy tale is a portal to a secret training facility where the descendants of legendary sidekicks are challenged to join the elite ranks of partners to heroes. When a villainous duo comes to Sidekick Academy, a group of fresh recruits must band together — without heroes, without parents — using only their new skills to save the fairytale realm before it’s too late.”
Who are the Hidden Heroes: A Descendants Story cast and characters?
Hidden Heroes is set to follow descendants of the Genie from Aladdin, Merryweather from Sleeping Beauty, and Lumiere from Beauty and the Beast. These sidekicks in training come face-to-face with the daughter of Yzma and the son of Kronk from The Emperor’s New Groove.
On August 18, Disney revealed that the adult cast includes Darren Criss (Glee) as Jiminy Cricket from Pinocchio, Sherry Cola (Camp Rock 3) as Yzma from The Emperor’s New Groove, Tony Award winner James Monroe Iglehart reprising his Broadway role as Genie from Aladdin, Hugo Ateo (The Wrong Paris) as Kronk from The Emperor’s New Groove, Sean Yves Lessard (12 Dares of Christmas) as Lumiere from Beauty and the Beast, and Dan Bakkedahl (Life in Pieces) as Yen Sid from “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” in Fantasia.

When will Hidden Heroes: A Descendants Story premiere?
Hidden Heroes has begun production! At this time, there is no set premiere date. We’d expect to see the spinoff premiere in 2027 or 2028.
