As The Late Show prepares to say its final goodbye next week, Stephen Colbert busted out his Joe Biden impression one last time as he mocked President Donald Trump‘s recent poll numbers.
On Wednesday’s (May 13) show, the late-night host said that “Trump’s war in Iran has pushed America’s economy into what financial experts call the poop shoot.” Colbert added that voters have noticed that, and “right now, 70% of Americans disapprove of Trump’s handling of the economy, and more than two-thirds of Americans say the country feels out of control.”
“Oh, come on,” Colbert responded. “Things are completely under control. Donald Trump may seem unstable, but I’m sure he has a plan. What is your plan, Mr. President?”
He then played a clip of Trump making a stupid sound while speaking to reporters at the White House.
“Trump’s poll numbers are not good,” Colbert continued before throwing to a clip of CNN’s Harry Enten, who declared that Trump now has the “five worst polls ever for any president.” Enten pointed out that not even Biden is in there.
Colbert then donned his aviator shades and treated viewers to one last impersonation of the former president. “That’s right, Jack. I’m not in there, cause I’m in here. That’s right. How’s it going, Barack?” Colbert said, pointing to band leader Louis Cato.
He continued, “I’m in here asking: ‘Remember how much better it was when I was in charge?’ Because, I’ll be honest, folks. I do not.”
“Last Biden impression ever,” he added before encouraging everyone to dance. “Let’s dance, everybody. Come on. You know you make me wanna… a little louder. Watch me whip, watch me nae nae.”
CBS previously cited financial reasons for canceling The Late Show, claiming the show loses $40 million annually. At the time, some critics argued the axing was politically motivated, with parent company Paramount hoping to appease Trump amid its merger with Skydance, which required government approval.
The Late Show will air its final ever episode next Thursday (May 21). In solidarity, fellow late-night shows, Jimmy Kimmel Live! and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, will go dark that night.
