Sister Wives star Maddie Brown Brush has been candid about being estranged from her father, Kody Brown. Moreover, she has shared how her kids will never be around him; they would not even recognize him if they saw him, given the time that has lapsed. Maddie Brown Did Things Her Way
Sister Wives viewers may remember Maddie Brown Brush as the black-haired daughter of Kody and Janelle Brown. She knew she wanted to go to some sort of college but did not appear to want polygamy. When Robyn Brown entered as the fourth wife, she appeared to be happy or accepting of the new wife. Maddie was the first Brown child to get married in a 2016 televised wedding. Kody officiated the wedding to Caleb Brush, and she also gave her parents their first grandchild, Axel.
Her second child, Evie K., was born and named after her father, but after that, things drifted apart. Maddie explained that Kody did not like her honesty. She noted that he could dish it, but could not take it. Staying away from him helped protect her peace, and now, she is spilling how she did not like life at 13. That was around the time Sister Wives began filming, Kody took on a fourth wife, and she saw how she wanted her future to look:
“There are things my children will never be exposed to in our home and I made that decision long before they were born. I knew at 13 years old that I didn’t want the life I was living. I couldn’t change my circumstances then, but I could decide, with full certainty, what I would and wouldn’t carry forward. No instability where there should be stability; no fear where there should be safety. No secrets where there should be honesty; no chaos designed as normal.”
Maddie Brown Brush’s sister, Mykelti Brown Padron, has recently come forward about being sexually abused by a neighbor. However, her parents punished her because they had a no “tattle-taling” rule. Therefore, by her breaking her silence, she was breaking their rule.
Maddie Is Pivoting
The one thing that Maddie Brown Brush understands is that patterns are hard to break. Yet, she knew it had to be done, and it started with her and no one else. She made the conscious decision to be the change, and now, four children later, she feels like she has:
“It takes a lot of intention to not repeat patterns. It’s not natural. It’s something I had to learn, and something I have to keep choosing, especially on hard days. But it ends with me. That part was decided a long time ago, and I’ve never once looked back on it.”
Maddie got very lucky that her husband shows up for their children. She struggles with her father being absent, but Kody Brown has consistently lacked accountability. He believes that he is owed an apology from his kids, as they have wronged him. Finally, fans could not believe his behavior. After viewers saw what Maddie Brown Brush posted, they had this to say:
- I can’t believe he still hasn’t reached out to her and tried to mend their relationship. Having Kody as a Dad is a cr*p hand in life
- Most of us just mess up a couple kids. Cody has managed to f*ck up an entire platoon.
