‘The Boroughs’ Star Denis O’Hare Plots Revenge on Netflix After Show’s Cancellation

What To Know

  • Denis O’Hare expressed disappointment over Netflix’s unexpected cancellation of The Boroughs after just one season.
  • The actor encouraged fans and Emmy voters to support the show and its cast as a way to “stick it to Netflix.”
  • Plans for a second season were reportedly underway, with discussions of filming multiple seasons back-to-back.

Denis O’Hare has admitted to feeling “bummed” about Netflix’s decision to cancel The Boroughs and playfully suggested a way fans could “stick it” to the streamer.

It was announced last week that Netflix had dropped the new Duffer Brothers sci-fi series after just one season, shocking the cast, which included O’Hare, Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, Clarke Peters, and Bill Pullman.

“So, it’s Saturday, and I’m just thinking about the fact that Netflix canceled The Boroughs and how really bummed I am because it was such a great show. It was such a great show and people really seem to love it,” O’Hare said in an Instagram video on Saturday (June 20).

He continued, “I’ve been astounded how many people have come up to me and talked about how much they like the show and not just like, you know, old people, but I’m talking about anybody, people who are, you know, in their 30s or 40s with kids. Everyone seemed to find something to relate to.”

The True Blood alum then suggested a way fans could get some revenge on Netflix. “I think we still have a couple of days before the end of Emmy voting that everyone should just vote for The Boroughs. You can vote for me if you like,” he stated. “But also like Bill Pullman and Alfre Woodard and Alfie Molina and Geena Davis and Clarke Peters, Seth Numrich, Alice Kremelberg.”

“And vote for The Boroughs for Best Series and, you know, stick it to Netflix and let them know that they made a mistake, you know, because I think that would be sweet revenge,” O’Hare added. “Anyway, I love the show, I miss it and, you know, whatever.”

According to Deadline, there had been discussions about a renewal, and a Season 2 writers’ room had been opened before the unexpected cancelation. Sources also told the outlet that there had been talk of filming Seasons 2 and 3 back-to-back.

“Honestly, I don’t know what happened,” Davis previously told The Hollywood Reporter. “I think it’s probably rare for a show to not get picked up and to have it announced that it’s not being picked up while it’s still in the top 10.”
