The Conners has undergone a schedule change ahead of a possible series finale. There has been no Season 7 renewal for the Roseanne-based show. So, what does the new schedule look like and how will it affect viewers? Keep reading for more details.
The Conners Undergoes Schedule Change With No Season 7 Renewal
As of now, The Conners airs at 8 pm EST, Wednesday nights on ABC but that will be changing come May 1st, 2024. The hit series, based on Roseanne, will move to 930 pm EST which is not a big switch for faithful viewers. It aired at 9 pm EST until Season 5 when it was moved to its earlier timeslot that it currently resides. Now, in Season 6, the series’ fate is up in the air. According to The Sun, it has not received word if it will be back for Season 7 or if this will be the end of the family’s journey.
Back in 2018, Roseanne was rebooted after over two decades off the air. Unfortunately, the show’s namesake was fired for inappropriate comments. Luckily, the show was saved and a spinoff was created with just the family. They did kill off Roseanne, which was a hard pill for some fans to swallow. This did not leave the door open for her return. However, the trials and tribulations of life have taken The Conners through a successful Season 6. More so, the writers even brought back OG cast members and guest stars to the delight of viewers.
Now, there is a reason for the time change and it has nothing to do with ratings which is often a reason to move shows. The Jeopardy! Masters starts on May 1st hence why both Abbott Elementary and The Conners are experiencing the shuffle. It will remain this way for the rest of the season, which had a late start due to the writers and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Unfortunately, the show had to move while its future is still uncertain. Will The Conners be back for another season? It is not looking good, per Deadline.
The End Of An Era
Right now, The Conners may have to use their season finale as a series finale. Around this time in the year, a show of their caliber would know if they were coming back or not, as Deadline shared:
“In years past, the actors, who have been on one-year deals from the start, would have been just about done negotiating new contracts by now, paving the way to a renewal, which inevitably followed.”
That being said, it does not appear any of that has happened with the cast. However, if it does get renewed in the final hour, Season 7 will likely be the last season. As of now, the cast has prepared for the end. They filmed their Season 6 finale to work either way the wind blows and it is said to be quite emotional. Time will tell what will happen but fans are hoping it gets one more round.
