The Essential ‘No Reservations’ Episodes to Watch Before A24’s Anthony Bourdain Biopic ‘Tony’

Matt Johnson‘s Tony is a coming-of-age biographical comedy-drama that explores the formative years of legendary chef, author, and TV personality Anthony Bourdain. Starring Dominic Sessa as the future culinary icon, the film centers on a transformative summer in 1975 in Provincetown, Massachusetts, when Bourdain was just 19 years old. The experiences of that pivotal summer would later inspire many of the stories he recounted in his bestselling memoir Kitchen Confidential.

After several bestsellers, Bourdain’s television career and initial screen fame were launched by his first food and travel show, A Cook’s Tour, which aired 35 episodes on the Food Network from 2002 to 2003. But he hit global superstardom when he moved to the Travel Channel with Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations.

No Reservations redefined travel television from stiff companion guides that bordered on the mundane into raw, empathetic cultural anthropology led by a near madman. Spanning nine seasons on the Travel Channel from 2005 to 2012, the Emmy Award-winning series established Bourdain’s signature style of connecting humanity through shared meals as he entertained the masses with his gruff and sarcastic tone, taking millions by the hand and leading them into parts unknown.

The first episode (“Paris: Why the French Don’t Suck”) aired on July 25, 2005, and the series eventually spawned 142 episodes. In honor of A24’s Tony, here are a few of the top episodes to watch, plus how to watch them, so you can fall in love with the bad boy chef all over again.
