It may still be months before we’ll see new episodes of The Rookie — the drama is going to be part of ABC’s midseason lineup, as will its new spinoff, The Rookie: North starring Jay Ellis — but the cast is getting ready to get back to work.
On Wednesday, July 15, Deric Augustine shared two photos from his prep on his Instagram Stories, and the upcoming ninth season will see a change for his character — he’s no longer a rookie!
“I think he’s going to be thrilled that he’s not a rookie anymore. Especially in Season 8, we see him make a lot of mistakes and learn from them. So, I’m excited about that journey to see how he not relies on his cowboy instincts, but really relies on the teachings of his TOs, the three TOs he had and the intellect he learned from the mistakes that he has fortunately learned from,” Augustine told TV Insider.
Of course what we’re especially eager to see are behind-the-scenes looks at Melissa O’Neil and Eric Winter on set to get a sense of what’s to come for Lucy and Tim, who were kidnapped right after (finally) getting engaged!
And here’s something else to help with the wait for new episodes: An extended version of Season 8 Episode 10 will be available on Hulu starting on July 20.
