The View hosts had a lot to say about Donald Trump‘s NBA Finals appearance.
The president attended Game 3 of the NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and the San Antonia Spurs at Madison Square Garden on Monday, June 8. “A lot of Knicks fans are not happy with you know who right now,” Whoopi Goldberg said at the top of the daytime talk show’s Tuesday, June 9, episode. “He came into town, messed up everything. You couldn’t make a left, couldn’t make a right, couldn’t go across the street. You couldn’t buy anything.”
The screen showed footage of long security lines and crowds around MSG. “These people have been waiting for this to happen, and so, this man comes in, he’s a fan, and okay. But my goodness!” she noted before adding, “And they are blaming him for breaking the Knicks’ winning streak last night.”
Heading into Monday’s game, the Knicks had won the first two games of the best-of-seven tournament. The Spurs ultimately narrowly beat the Knicks during Game 3 with a score of 115-111.
The View audience cheered at Goldberg’s remarks about Trump being blamed for the Knicks’ loss. However, she shut down speculation that he was the cause of the game’s results, stating, “They were not playing great ball. That was on us. I have to just reiterate the fact that this man does not have that kind of power. We have to remind people he doesn’t have the power.”

Goldberg stated that placing the blame on Trump takes responsibility away from the Knicks players. “These guys were not playing at their best, and they know it,” she said.
Goldberg went on to address how Trump was audibly booed while being shown on the Jumbotron during the national anthem. In an interview afterward, Trump described the reaction as “enthusiastic” and said the noise was “mostly cheers.”
Sunny Hostin didn’t hold back her upset over Trump’s attendance at the game. “We had an impeccable vibe in New York until the orange man showed and put the bad juju onto Madison Square Garden. Now, we’re gonna have to go back in and sage the whole Madison Square Garden to get the bad juju out,” she stated. “But I will also say this, it costs so much money to secure Madison Square Garden. It cost New York millions of dollars for Donald Trump to come to the game, where he was not cheered. He was booed. And during which, he fell asleep.” (Trump was filmed appearing to doze off during the game.)
Alyssa Farah Griffin weighed in, stating, “My thing from a political perspective is you never, as a politician, do this. You do not go to an NBA finals game when there’s a winning streak because if they lose, everyone will blame you. All of New York City will blame you. I called it yesterday.”
She added, “The one thing I’ll say in defense of Trump is he has loved the Knicks since the Knicks were terrible. He’s been consistent as a fan.”
ABC
Guest host Sheryl Underwood scored lots of applause from the show’s audience for her take on the situation. “Why didn’t he just stay his a** in [Washington,] D.C. and watch from his house?” she questioned. “I gotta give it up to New Yorkers. That was Showtime at the Apollo-level booing yesterday.”
Goldberg wrapped up the conversation by praising the Knicks as “one of the greatest of all time” NBA teams. “Whatever happens from here on out, I can’t be mad at them because they have given us a party. They have given New York light and shiny and we love it,” she said. “And we are going to always celebrate that, as we will celebrate wherever we end up on Thursday.”
Game 4 of the NBA Finals will once again take place at MSG on Wednesday, June 10.
