On the Friday, June 12, episode of The View, the panelists discussed Donald Trump‘s upcoming 80th birthday and how he’ll be celebrating it by hosting a UFC fight on the White House lawn.
Whoopi Goldberg, Sara Haines, Alyssa Farah Griffin, Sunny Hostin, and Ana Navarro all agreed that it’s ridiculous to be holding the fight at the White House, but Griffin made a suggestion for the cage match that had Goldberg looking absolutely giddy.
Griffin recounted other sporting events that have been held on the White House lawn (George Bush’s annual T-ball game and some tennis matches), adding, “Teddy Roosevelt takes the cake. He actually held a boxing match and participated. So I’m for [the UFC fight], but Donald Trump has to get in the ring.”
Goldberg couldn’t wipe the smile off her face as she started giddily clapping. “I like that!” she declared.
Haines pointed out, “In this administration, with how feckless Congress is, it’s fitting that they’re making it an official cage match. That’s how I feel every time we talk about D.C. There’s a jersey and you’re on this side or this side and … go.”
Hostin said the UFC fight doesn’t “reflect American culture” and slammed the event as “corrupt” because “Donald Trump owns stock in UFC. This is a for-profit event on government grounds. Are the taxpayers getting some money? Are we gonna get some checks for this? No, but the Trump family is.”
Navarro, meanwhile, called out the Trump administration for the “desecration of the White House” by building the UFC ring on the lawn. She also added, It’s kind of this weird need and narcissistic disfunction by Donald Trump of celebrating himself. Did nobody celebrate you as a child? I want to remind people how Joe Biden celebrated his 80th birthday in the White House: with his family and loved ones and his favorite coconut cake. He doesn’t need people bowing down to him and telling him how great he is and buying his image.”
