A Few Guests Will Be Filling In For Whoopi Goldberg On The View As Joy Behar Moderates
Earlier this month, it was announced that Goldberg would be taking a break from The View. At the time, she was working on the Netflix film, Women Like Us, starring alongside Vivica A. Fox, Vanessa Williams, and Jenifer Lewis.
Goldberg is only missing mid-week episodes for two weeks, appearing only on Mondays. In her absence, Star Jones, Sherri Shepherd, Lisa Ling, and Debbie Matenopoulos were previously announced as substitute co-hosts. Joy Behar, meanwhile, will fill in for Goldberg as a moderator.
However, an insider recently weighed in on the shakeup with The Daily Mail. According to the source, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Ana Navarro and Alyssa Farah Griffin might be left dissatisfied with the set-up.
As the insider shared, “Every one of them wanted that chair,” referring to Behar being chosen as moderator. The source felt that the co-hosts would have each liked a chance to fill in. They noted, “This was the perfect opportunity to rotate the moderator role and see who could command the table. Instead, producers immediately went back to Joy.”
Different Insiders Expressed That The Other Co-Hosts Don’t Hold Anything Against Behar, But Want Their Chance To Shine
According to the source, the other co-hosts don’t hold anything against Behar, who has been part of the show since the very start. However, the insider expressed, “What more do they have to prove? These women have spent years at that table, yet when the biggest chair becomes available, management doesn’t even give them a chance.”
Another source shared a similar sentiment: the co-hosts understood why Behar was picked, but they are wondering when it will finally be their turn to prove themselves. The insider shared, “Nobody is taking anything away from Joy – she’s earned her place. But if ABC won’t trust anyone else to lead for two weeks, people are asking a very uncomfortable question: when exactly will their turn ever come?”
Previously, when Goldberg announced her break up the show during an episode of the Behind the Tables podcast, she shared concern that Behar would be up for the moderating role. Producer Brian Teta expressed, “Joy’s up for it. She’s always excited to moderate.”
