Joy Behar found herself front and center of a “Hot Topic” discussion on Wednesday’s (May 27) new episode of The View. The cohosts discussed the growing public questions about Donald Trump‘s health as he visited Walter Reed Hospital for another medical exam on Tuesday, and the subject of the White House’s “rapid response” post of various TV personalities, including Behar, as in “poor health.”
“The White House says You Know Who remains in excellent health. They also lashed out on social media, posting screengrabs of reporters with their eyes closed, along with captions claiming they’re asleep and must be in bad health,” Whoopi Goldberg said. “They posted one of you, too, Joy.”
“They must have been showing one of his clips,” Behar quipped in response, earning audible approval from the audience. “Just because your eyes go down doesn’t mean you’re asleep.”
Goldberg then noted that many of the reporters who were included in the post spree were merely blinking and said the White House claims images of Trump appearing to be asleep were also just him blinking.
Instead of taking the government at its word, though, Goldberg decided to roll clips of Trump appearing to be asleep, not blinking.
“Those are very long blinks,” Behar then said. “Melania must be keeping him up at night.”
On a more serious note, though, Alyssa Farah Griffin pointed to Trump’s troubling social media timing, with several instances of posts going well into the night.
“I find it deeply alarming,” Griffin said. “I think if it was any of our spouses, we’d be like, ‘Honey, get some sleep. You don’t perform well the next day…. He’s posted there [at Truth Social] upwards of 44 overnight posting tirades of dozens-plus tweets. One night in December between 8 p.m. and midnight, the president’s account posted 160 times.”
“It’s impressive in a certain way,” Behar then said. “Because who can do that?”
Plus, Sara Haines noted, “The one difference here you’re seeing all of these videos of reporters. A reporter falling asleep does not have the same consequential nature of the president of the United States. It’s the highest, most powerful job on the globe, and I think that the problem with Donald Trump is I did notice with President Biden during the debate the decline of sorts. With President Trump, it’s harder to tell because he was always crazy.”
