People recently announced their list of candidates for their 2026 “Sexiest Man Alive” campaign. Quite a few morning news personalities have since been nominated. Recently, one of the candidates just got a surprising amount of support from one of his co-stars, even at the expense of the competition.
Today‘s Craig Melvin & GMA‘s Michael Strahan Are Two Of The Four Morning Show Candidates In People‘s 2026 Poll
People‘s “Sexiest Man Alive” campaign has returned for 2026. Open until October 12, the winners of the 14 categories will be announced on October 20, 2026.
One category asks voters to pick a morning news host, asking, “Which one of these morning hosts is hotter than your first cup of coffee?” This year, voters can pick between Vladimir Duthiers, Gio Benitez, Michael Strahan, and Craig Melvin. Duthiers works for CBS Mornings, Benitez and Strahan work for Good Morning America, and Melvin works for Today.
During a recent episode of Today, Melvin found a lot of support from his co-workers. In particular, Roker was especially confident about Melvin’s chances.
When photos of the four morning host candidates were shown onscreen, Roker mused, “Look at that, that’s not even close. It’s unfair to the other three.”
Melvin Wasn’t The Only Morning Host Getting Support From His Co-Stars
Laura Jarrett wanted to keep things friendly, adding, “We don’t have to shade the other three.” However, Roker countered, “Oh, yes we do! We absolutely do.”
While Jarrett still tried to keep things peaceful, Roker even named one of Melvin’s competitors, sharing, “And by the way, no offense, but Strahan shouldn’t even count because he’s not there on Mondays because he’s doing football.” Melvin blushed, but appeared to laugh off Roker’s comments.
The recent comments were actually a change of pace for Roker. Late last month, he actually teased Melvin about him being named in the poll. At the time, he joked, “Lindsay [Czarniak, Melvin’s spouse] sent me the iced coffee because she said you’re not much hotter than this.” Savannah Guthrie also teased, “Alright, sexy! If you want to feel warm and cozy throughout the fall and winter, just grab Craig. He’s hot!”
Meanwhile, Melvin isn’t the only morning news host getting support at this time. Over at CBS Mornings, Gayle King and Nate Burleson also shared support for Duthiers when he had been nominated. At the time, Burleson even shared, “You’re a handsome dude!”
