At the time, the Today staff was talking about distracted driving, especially the consequences of checking your phone while behind the wheel. At the time, it was noted that the federal government claims that someone is killed every two and a half hours in a distracted driving crash.

For his part, Roker admitted to getting tickets and even having to go to court. Roker shared, “I’ve got three tickets, I’ve gone to court three times and they plead it down for you, you still need to pay the fee. What else is interesting, is what you see going through court as well. The other cases.”

Roker then surprised her co-star when asked, “Al, you did it without a lawyer?” He claimed, “I consulted an attorney. He said they actually appreciate it, most courts.” This caused Jarrett to tease that she would go along with Roker the next time she went to court.

Roker Previously Shared A Driving Habit Of His Concerning His Spouse, Deborah Roberts

Geist poked fun at the idea considering Roker’s line of work. He teased, “Did the judge ask you if his flights were going to take off from JFK?” Going along with the joke, Roker replied, “I have to give them a forecast every week.”

Roker has often poked fun at his driving skills on the show. A few months back, he spoke with Laura Jarrett during a discussion about proper protocol for riding shotgun.

At the time, Roker shared an interesting habit concerning his wife, Deborah Roberts. He noted, “When Deborah rides shotgun, and she’ll doze off, I’ll just slam on the brakes, just to wake her up! “[Meanwhile] I’m watching Waze and telling her where the police are.”
