Craig Melvin and Dylan Dreyer were recently absent from Today‘s studio, with the two away on assignment. However, during a later episode, the two teased a reason why they might soon be absent all over again. This also came out as the show was set to feature a special guest.
Craig Melvin & Dylan Dreyer Were Recently Part Of A Big Event Together
Both Melvin and Dreyer have long been part of NBC News. Dreyer joined Today back in 2012 as a weekend weather anchor, while Melvin joined Today in 2018, having joined the network in 2011.
Over the years, fans have also seen Melvin and Dreyer work on a few special assignments together. Recently, the two attended the fifth annual Bottoms Up Invitational, an event Craig launched to raise money and awareness for the Colorectal Cancer Alliance in honor of his late brother, Lawrence.
During a recent episode of the show, Kenny Chesney performed for the Citi Concert Series at Rockefeller Plaza. The co-hosts, which included Melvin and Dreyer, were openly excited. Melvin shared, “A very good morning to you on this ‘Third Hour’ of Today. I’m Craig. Here’s Dylan. There’s Al. There you are.” Dreyer added, “We are all where we need to be.”
Craig then announced their musical guest. As he shared, “You know who else is here? Kenny Chesney. What a fun morning it is. The country legend – he has put on just a fantastic show for our plaza crowd. Not done yet. Fear not.” Teasing that there was more to come, he shared, “Fear not, ‘No Shoes Nation,’ he’s got one more song. He’s gonna come inside as well and catch up, and we’re gonna talk about his new music, his tour, and much more.”
Kenny Chesney Also Teased Some Insight Into His Upcoming Album
The music appeared to get everyone is a comfy mood. As Al Roker joked, “We’ve been talking. It’s almost thrown us off because the vibe is Friday. It’s such a Friday vibe.”
This caused Melvin to tease, “So if you don’t see us tomorrow, you know what happened.” Dylan added, “Yes, we got confused.” Of course, it was all said in jest, as the two indeed appeared on the following Friday episode.
Meanwhile, Kenny’s new album, Silver Sands Marina, will be released on September 25. During his time on the show, he shared, “Well you hope that the record that you put out is a reflection – is a mirror of where you are in your life. The thing that I love about [the record] – I was afforded the gift of time for this one. Usually when an artist has a record and they put it out and it does well, the label kind of wants another one, or the same one in a 12 or 18 month period.”
The music star continued, “I think there’s a lot of emotions on this record that feel really alive and I’m very proud of that. It’s one thing that I try – when we’re up there on stage – sometimes I edit myself up to a fault because I’m constantly going ‘If I record this song, are they gonna care the way I think they’re gonna care?’”
