Craig Melvin Reveals Reason Behind Savannah Guthrie’s Today Show Absence
Sheinelle Jones joined Craig Melvin at the news desk on Thursday, June 18. Savannah Guthrie was also absent the day before, June 17. On Thursday’s show, Sheinelle Jones joked that maybe Savannah Guthrie skipped the show to join the Knicks parade. The New York City team nabbed the NBA Championship over the weekend for the first time in 53 years.
“Perhaps Savannah is amongst the huge crowd taking over the streets of New York today for the Knicks’ victory parade,” Sheinelle Jones joked. However, that wasn’t the reason behind her absence. Craig Melvin revealed that Savannah Guthrie is off “on assignment.” She’s in production meetings for the upcoming Wordle game show coming to NBC.
The popular New York Times puzzle is getting the television treatment. Savannah Guthrie previously revealed that production was supposed to start in March but was delayed after her mother’s shocking alleged kidnapping.
The Today Show host posted on her Instagram Story. One photo showed her Wordle nameplate with her initials on it. The show, which is produced by Jimmy Fallon, is expected to premiere in 2027. Savannah Guthrie serves as the game show’s host. PEOPLE magazine reported that she’ll be back on the Today Show on Monday, June 22.
Savannah Guthrie Spends Time With Special Person While Off Show
According to earlier reports, the new Wordle game show will film in Manchester, England. However, it seems the meetings were in Los Angeles, California. Savannah Guthrie shared two photos on social media of an unexpected reunion with a special person. She reunited with her Today Show co-host Caron Daly and even visited him on the set of The Voice. Season 30 of the reality competition airs on NBC this fall with Kelly Clarkson returning as one of the coaches.
Savannah Guthrie and Carson Daly were all smiles during their reunion. However, Today Show fans took to Reddit to discuss how the morning news program has been a little different since her return while Nancy Guthrie is still missing.
