Jenna Bush Hager Joined Today In 2019 & Became A Co-Host On The Fourth Hour In 2019
Jenna and her twin sister Barbara are the daughters of George W. Bush, the 43rd president of the United States. Through him, they are also the granddaughters of the 41st U.S. President, George H.W. Bush.
Jenna was often reported on in the media during her father’s presidency. However, she would go on to pursue a career in broadcast herself, famously becoming part of Today. Currently, she hosts the program’s fourth hour alongside Sheinelle Jones.
During a recent episode of Today With Jenna & Sheinelle, Jenna and Sheinelle discussed Kaia Gerber and Homer Gere‘s new Vogue cover. As they noted, the two are the children of Cindy Crawford and Richard Gere, respectively, in addition to the two appearing on The Shards.
During the discussion, it was noted that the two often deal with accusations of nepotism in their careers. This caused Jenna to reflect on her high-profile childhood. For her part, she felt that being a former first daughter helped launch her own career, as she didn’t have previous professional television experience. She noted, “I think most people who have parents that [are famous], we have a privilege that we know, and you can own that.”
Sheinelle Jones Also Weighed In On The Story, Touching On Another Project Of Her Co-Star’s
Jenna shared that she was asked to join Today while working as a teacher. She mused, “As we all know, teaching is the hardest job there is, so, eventually, I took the interview.”
While admitting her family helped opened door for her, Jenna mused that this has caused people to judge her. Without naming anyone, she shared, “A correspondent said to me, ‘We just thought they hired you ‘cause of your dad.’ That’s everybody’s fear that has this.”
Jenna noted that comments like this motivated her to work harder in her career. As she explained, “When people say mean things to me, which is online, that’s their thing, and I get it. And it’s the thing that probably all of us can feel bad about. But then, what we do to get over that is work like crazy, work beyond to where we’re working ourselves too much.” Ultimately, Jenna felt that she grew past wanting to get others’ approval.
For her part, Jones praised her co-hosts, saying that viewers have seen her “grow” into her role on Today. She mused, “And now, you’ve got a show coming on after The Voice on Mondays on NBC! You’re in your boss era!” This was in reference to Jenna’s upcoming NBC series, Line of Fire, which Jenna executive produces. For her part, Jenna returned the sentiment, teasing, “I’m in my sitting next to Sheinelle era.”
