Today Show Leaving NYC Studio, Big Relocation Ahead

The Today Show hosts free concerts on Rockefeller Plaza during the summer. But summer is coming to an end. All of the hosts are back on the air after taking time off over the last few months to enjoy summer. But the NYC studio will go dark in October amid a surprising relocation.

The NBC show currently films inside Studio 1A inside the Rockefeller Plaza. The show moved to the new studio in 1994. Craig Melvin was accosted by an intruder in July when the intruder got past security and made their way into the studio. However, Craig Melvin never missed a beat and returned to the live broadcast after the scary incident.

But the Today Show needs a change. Jenna Bush Hager announced this week that the morning program is relocating. Temporarily, at least. “We’re heading to Ireland!” she announced on Thursday to the cheers of her co-hosts.

According to the NBC press release, Savannah Guthrie, Craig Melvin, Al Roker, Carson Daly, Dylan Dreyer, Jenna Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones are all heading overseas for the special event. The press release teased surprise appearances in store for viewers at home.

The Today Show isn’t moving to Ireland permanently. The show will broadcast live from the beautiful Sheen Falls Lodge in County Kerry, Ireland, on Friday, October 16. And you could join them! Interested viewers can register here to secure a spot in the live audience.

Savannah Guthrie Reveals Mother’s Connection To Ireland

Savannah Guthrie returned to the Today Show on Tuesday, September 8, after a two-week vacation. It was one of several breaks since her April return following her mother’s disappearance. It was actually her interview with Irish actor Pierce Bronson that sparked the show’s overseas relocation.

While chatting with her co-hosts about the upcoming trip, Savannah Guthrie made a rare mention of her mother, Nancy Guthrie. Nancy has been missing since February 1 when a masked intruder broke into her home.

“I’ve never been to Ireland. My mother’s family, my mother was Irish. Her grandmother, they’re from Galway,” Savannah Guthrie shared with the audience.

The Today Show‘s trip overseas is sponsored by Tourism Ireland. Share your thoughts on the unexpected relocation in the comments.
