Craig Melvin and his family enjoyed a special night out at one of the year’s biggest concerts.
The Today host has had a number of memorable on-and-off-screen experiences over the past few months, from attending a World Cup match with Savannah Guthrie to flying in a U.S. Navy fighter jet, to being slapped by Days of Our Lives star Deidre Hall on Today to giving a commencement speech at Villanova University.
Melvin added another memorable experience to his list on Saturday, July 11, by attending one of Jay-Z‘s concerts at Yankee Stadium. “Had a blast last night watching the best to ever do it with my kid brother and our boys,” he shared via Instagram on Sunday, July 12. “Yankee Stadium was electric. Crowd went wild when Eminem and Pharrell showed up. Perfect evening. Appreciate you Hova!”
Melvin’s upload featured several snaps and clips from the concert, including a selfie he took with his son Delano, his younger brother Ryan, and his nephew. “Would have lost my mind!!!!” one fan commented underneath the post. Another added, “Loved running into you afterwards! So great to see Del in person. What a fun show!!”
Someone else shared, “I wish I could have been there! Nice!” A different person posted, “Great seeing you last night after the concert. Thank you for taking the time to say hi. Fun times!!!” A separate commenter shared, “Your son is having so many great memories this summer!” Another fan wrote, “What an amazing memory to share with your family!!”
Kaylee Hartung, who was filling in for Carson Daly, reported on Jay-Z’s sold-out Yankee Stadium concerts during Monday’s “PopStart” segment on Today. “The special shows were in honor of the 30th anniversary of his debut album, ‘Reasonable Doubt,’” she said, noting that the shows’ special guests included the likes of Pharrell, Eminem, Alicia Keys, and Rihanna, as well as Jay-Z’s famous wife and daughter, Beyoncé and Blue Ivy Carter.
“The historic shows set the record for most tickets ever sold for a concert at Yankee Stadium,” she added before asking Melvin, “Craig, you were one of them there. What’d you think?”
Melvin told his colleagues that the concert was “epic,” adding, “We went Saturday night, and let me tell you, sometimes you’re like, ‘Is it gonna live up to the hype?’ It exceeded that. And by the way, everyone was having a good time, and it’s like, ‘Oh, here’s Eminem! Oh, here’s Pharrell!’”

Melvin shares his son, Delano, and his daughter, Sybil, with his wife, Lindsay Czarniak. Back in April, Delano joined Melvin in Studio 1A. “Had the best time bringing Delano into Studio 1A for Bring Your Kid To Work Day!” he captioned Instagram pics from their shared work day. “Nothing like sharing a little behind-the-scenes magic with him and seeing it all through his eyes. Safe to say he stole the show (and maybe my job). Days like this remind me what it’s all about.”
Last month, he and Delano enjoyed another big father-son outing by attending Game 4 of the NBC Finals at Madison Square Garden. “A game for the ages and a core memory too,” he captioned Instagram photos of himself and Delano celebrating the New York Knicks’ win on June 11.
